About the European Public Health Week

The European Public Health Week (EUPHW) aims to raise awareness about public health and promote collaboration among the public health community in Europe. EUPHW is an annual initiative organised and coordinated by EUPHA. It began in 2019 and keeps growing. Read more about the past editions.

The sixth EUPHW will take place between May 13th and 17th, 2024!

What to expect from the 2024 European Public Health Week?

The European Public Health Week (EUPHW) 2024 will focus on the overarching topic - Health is a political choice! - highlighting the interplay between politics and health to create sustainable change for better health in the future.

We will open the dialogue online and in person in Brussels on Monday, May 13, at the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, discussing how to integrate health into the political agenda effectively. We will address health within the context of crises and explore the concepts of a well-being economy and politics. Additionally, we'll delve into the importance of community participation in health politics, implementing Health-in-All-Policies, and the broader application of health considerations across all policy areas. This day aims to set the stage for a week of fruitful discussions, laying the groundwork for actionable insights and strategies to ensure health is prioritised across all levels of political decision-making. Stay tuned for more information on this event!

Each of the EUPHW days, from Monday to Friday, will focus on a dedicated daily theme while keeping in mind the overarching topic. For details, please see in the next section and under Daily themes.

Additionally, for the first time during the 2024 EUPHW, we will also link all the daily themes to the focus topic of the 2024 European Public Health Conference in Lisbon (13-15 November 2024) - Sailing the waves of European public health: exploring a sea of innovation. Each day of the 2024 EUPHW will take an innovation angle and look at current and future innovative approaches in dealing with the topics at hand.

The 2024 European Public Health Week will end with another in-person event (also streamed online) on Friday, May 17th, again in Brussels. While we frequently discuss the importance of young voices, it's time to reflect on tangible actions. Amplifying these voices means more than simply acknowledging their value; it involves actively relinquishing control, sharing the stage, speaking less, and handing over the microphone. The final day of the European Public Health Week will focus on the next generation, led by EUPHAnxt and co-organised with other networks of students and young professionals.
