Society for Social Medicine & Polulation Health
The UK Society for Social Medicine & Polulation Health is one of the founding members of EUPHA and aims to promote the development of scientific knowledge in social medicine. This covers a range of subjects including epidemiology, the medical and health needs of society, the provision and organization of health services and the prevention of disease. It was founded in 1956.
The society organises a number of meetings throughout the year. The biggest is the Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM), which hosts the Cochrane and Pemberton lectures as well as a number of workshops before and during the conference.
In 2014, the UKSSM was the co-organised of the European Public Health Conference in Glasgow.
