EUPHA-EPI invites you to join us in Berlin for the upcoming European Public Health (EPH) Conference during 9-12 November 2022! Apart from the aforementioned pre-conference and the classical Join the Network meeting, several workshops co-organised by EUPHA-EPI have been accepted by the organizing committee.

  • The workshop "Quality of COVID-19 science: meta-research and the ethical implications for public health" is chaired by Stefania Boccia and Alastair Leyland with the following presentations:
    • Quality of COVID-19 research: An overview of large-scale assessments and a case study on excess mortality estimates (Lazaros Belbasis, METRIC-B, Berlin Institute of Health)
    • Lessons learned from automated screening of COVID-19 preprints (Tracey Weissgerber, QUEST center, Berlin Institute of Health)
    • Sources of bias in COVID-19 infection fatality rate estimation (Angelo Pezzullo, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore)
    • Public Health Ethics and 'the Science' in Public Decision-Making (John Coggon, University of Bristol)
  • EUPHA-EPI is also contributing to the EUPHA cross-sectional workshop "Research Methods for Public Health Oriented Health Services Research – what works where and for what?" with a presentation on the use of traditional and innovative epidemiological study designs for public health relevant inferences. Contribution from the audience will be sought during this workshop, so please let us know if you would like to be involved in the discussion.
  • In the round table "Health care systems, health service provision, and equity in health",  a proposal to integrate health systems, health services and population health research will be presented. We invite specialists from each of these fields and the audience of the round table to react to our proposal with the aim of promoting cross-disciplinary collaboration.
  • The full parallel programme of the conference is now available online and you can check when these and other sessions will be!

The webinar entitled "Qualitative Research: Tools for Understanding Community Needs and Amplifying Voices" hosted online by EUPHA-EPI on 4 May 2022 was a great success, with more than 300 participants. The recording of the webinar is now available online for all EUPHA members on the EUPHA resources module. Our main speaker Dr Rosie Frasso (Professor of Public Health at the Jefferson University (USA)) has gently accepted to answer all the questions that were asked during the webinar and left unanswered due to time constraints (available here).

The webinar "Personalised medicine and public engagement" co-organised with EUPHA-PHG and during which the survey by the ExACT project on personalized medicine has been launched will be available soon in the EUPHA resources module. The aim of this survey is to gather the views of citizens in European Union member states on personalized medicine. Feel free to share it with interested stakeholders. The survey is available in English, as well as in Italian, Dutch and French

Finally, let us express our gratitude to Dineke Zeegers Paget as she handed over the role of EUPHA Executive director to Marieke Verschuuren. Dineke has led the EUPHA organization for 25 years and we are very proud of her inspiring directorship. Also, we want to congratulate Marieke on her new appointment wishing her the best of luck in this new position with the EUPHA!

Best wishes,

Stefania and Angelo
