Dear members,

The invasion in Ukraine and the unprecedented human suffering has shocked the world. Wars lead to a major public health crisis. Beyond direct injuries and death, less visible effects on the mental health can last years after the end of the conflict. The vulnerable will suffer most. Children may experience serious long term effects. Witnessing death and torture and experiencing fear for one's own life can be very impacting. Separated from parents, missing friends and school, forced to leave home and safe environments are huge stressors in children’s lives. We need to ensure that displaced communities and refugees will not face fragmented healthcare systems in the host countries. We need to prioritize the health, mental health and social care needs of all refugees, particularly those of children and people living with chronic conditions. We stand with individuals and communities from across the globe in calling for an end to the war (EUPHA statement HERE).

Our forthcoming EUPHA events offer a place for discussion on this major public health crisis and other emerging public health issues. Our section is planning to organize a pre-conference on November 9th on INJURY PREVENTION and various workshops in collaboration with other EUPHA sections. Besides these events, we are interested in hearing your ideas and hosting your events, individuals abstracts, round table discussions and workshops on INJURY PREVENTION & SAFETY PROMOTION. We invite you to submit your proposals or contact us HERE to offer you various ways of engagement in the following events.
