Dear Members of the EUPHA Health Promotion Section,

May has been busy with many things such as the review of the abstracts submitted for the next EUPHA conference in Lisbon. EUPHA is also working on its strategic plan. There is a wind of change coming that will rejuvenate the association and further improve its capacity to serve the members’ needs and to advocate for public health.

Our steering committee is working on a set of webinars that will take place over the next few months. The first one (first under this new team) will be our way to kick-start the conversation on health promotion practice and research in Europe (see below for the info).

As members, let us remind you that you are much welcome to get in touch with us (see our newsletter of 23 April here) to discuss any idea of project you may have for the section (webinar, working group, survey…). The newsletter is also yours to promote your activities, projects and achievements.

And please note that some of us are attending the IUHPE European Conference in Lodz (Poland). We hope to see you there!

June 25, 11.30 CEST: Webinar on Health Promotion Practice and Research in Europe

This is the HP Section launch webinar. Health promotion is a very broad field that is not always well understood within the wider EUPHA community. The webinar is organised by our steering committee member Elisabeth Noehammer (elisabeth.noehammer@umit-tirol.at) and will highlight the state of health promotion practice in Europe. The presentations will cover the strengths and weaknesses of 4 countries and the challenges they face and leave room for discussions. This collection of perspectives will be of high interest not only for those experienced in health promotion, but also for new colleagues who may still be wondering what they signed for. The webinar is scheduled on June 25 from 11.30 to 12.30 CEST. Register via the zoom link here. 

EPH Conference in Lisbon, 12 - 15 November

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to meet up in Lisbon. The HP section is working on a pre-conference touching on the challenges of establishing the evidence that our programmes are generating impacts and outcomes. News from the HP Section Steering Committee

Next fall, at least two other webinars are envisioned for which we are seeking your expertise:

The first one, organised by Chrysanthi Tatsi, is on the contribution of health promotion in crisis settings complex emergencies. Chrysa is herself much involved in providing support to refugees and in humanitarian actions. If you think you can contribute, please fill in this form.

The second one would evolve around the teaching of/ training in health promotion and health promotion universities. Kevin Dadaczynski & Karina Leksy are taking the lead on this one. You wish to contribute? Please feel in the form.

News from the Healthy and Sustainable Settings Unit

The Healthy and Sustainable Settings Unit (HSSU) is currently conducting two new activities which welcome EUPHA colleagues to connect with:

1. A global study to explore contemporary understandings of settings-based health promotion
2. An invitation to contribute to the Global Working Group on Healthy Settings

The Healthy and Sustainable Settings Unit (HSSU) was established in 2001. It aims to support the holistic and integrated development of healthy settings – acknowledging that “health is created and lived by people within the settings of their everyday life; where they learn, work, play and love” (WHO, 1986) and that many health challenges are interrelated and can be best tackled through comprehensive, integrated programmes in the contexts and places where people live their lives. Bridging research, policy and practice, the unit has a global reputation and is concerned to facilitate ecological approaches to health and wellbeing within and across a diversity of organisational and geographical settings – and to increase understanding of ‘what works and why’ in different contexts.
