Dear Colleagues,

Trust you are all doing well. As you know the month of November brought with it many EUPHA activities with the 16th European Public Health Conference (EPH) as the highlight. The Chronic Diseases Section participated in several workshops in collaboration with other sections and we are very happy with the outcome. A heartfelt thanks goes to those that made this happen!

The EPH conference was also the transition point for the presidency of this section. On behalf of the Chronic Diseases’ steering committee and EUPHA Office we would like to put forward a special thanks and gratitude to the outgoing president Prof. Julian Mamo who steer headed the section for the past 4 years.

We would like to take this opportunity to introduce the new Chronic Diseases section’s team. The new president of this section is Prof. Saverio Stranges. Saverio has been the vice-president for the past 4 years. Additionally, he is an academic public health physician and chronic disease epidemiologist, who has worked across different countries and health care systems both in Europe (Italy, UK, Luxembourg) and North America (US and Canada) for over 20 years. During the EPH conference’s Chronic Diseases section network meeting, a new vice-president was nominated and elected, Dr. Sarah Cuschieri. Sarah has been part of this section’s steering committee for the past 4 years. She is an academic epidemiologist and has been researching the field of chronic diseases and their impact on population health for over 10 years. The other steering committee members are Prof. Julian Mamo (Malta), Dr. Tatjana Makovski (Paris, France), Dr. Iveta Nagyova (Kosice, Slovakia) and Dr. Raffaele Palladino (Naples, Italy).

As of next year (2024) regular online webinars are planned with the aim of bringing together different professionals working in Chronic diseases and associated determinants. If you would like to be a speaker and showcase your work, please do get in touch. In addition, we would like to build an online members database to facilitate collaborations and to work together on research projects, position papers and to organise workshops/panel discussions for the next EPH Conference in Lisbon. The compiled datasheet will be available through the EUPHA’s member portal once its completed. We urge you to fill in this form: https://forms.gle/TLh4tGuZ68zJV5me6

We would like to wish you and your family health, happiness, and prosperity for this Christmas and in the coming New Year!

Best wishes,

Sarah and Saverio
