WHO Advisory Council on Innovation for Noncommunicable Diseases: Fostering a public health movement to accelerate action on NCDs

WHO Regional Office for Europe is organizing a meeting of the Advisory Council on Noncommunicable Diseases on Wednesday 9 November, 12:30 – 17:30 (room Alpha 2), as a pre-conference of the EPH Conference in Berlin. For this meeting and subsequent actions and collaboration, WHO Europe is looking for expertise and input from EUPHA, in particular EUPHA Sections. You are kindly invited to participate in this important meeting.

Aims of the meeting

This meeting brings councillors from the WHO Advisory Council on Innovation for Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDAC) together with EUPHA Sections to explore ways of best leveraging one another’s capacities to control and prevent NCDs in line with the NCDAC roadmap and its six Signature Initiatives (SI) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) commitments on NCDs. A joint plan with commitments to move the agenda forward will be developed between the NCDs Councillors, EUPHA sections, and SI leads. Finally, we will outline EUPHA’s potential contribution on the path towards the fourth High Level Meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on the prevention and control of NCDs in 2025 with a specific focus on Europe’s role in delivering this. The meeting will be opened and closed by Hans Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe and myself as EUPHA President. Keynote speakers are Ilona Kickbush and Martin McKee. A detailed Concept note and Programme can be found on the webpage: https://ephconference.eu/pre-conference-programme-513

The Signature Initiatives include:

  • Alcohol taxation
  • Childhood obesity
  • Salt and hypertension
  • Digital and digital health
  • Digital Marketing
  • Greener cities

Registration

We are aware that this invitation comes very late, and many of you have already made travel plans or are attending other pre-conferences. However, we would appreciate it if as many members of EUPHA sections as possible could participate..
