Dear EUPHA-EPI section members,

we are excited about the forthcoming 15th European Public Health (EPH) Conference 2022 in Berlin (9 - 12 November 2022) with plenty of activities for the public health epidemiology community. Please note that registration for the conference and pre-conferences are still open. EUPHA-EPI "Join the network" (JTN) meeting is organised during the EPH Conference on Friday 11 November from 12.45 to 13.45. Only registered participants will have access. You are all invited to participate and bring delegates interested in the field of public health epidemiology. EUPHA-EPI is looking for another vice president of the section, so please be sure to participate if you would like to apply for this position.

Following your advice at the last year’s JTN meeting, EUPHA-EPI organised a pre-conference entitled “Natural experimental evaluations for public policy and health systems: recent advances and updated guidance” with Dr Peter Craig and Dr David Ogilvieas the main speakers. The pre-conference will take place on Wednesday 9 November from 09:00 to 17:00 and provide an overview of natural experimental evaluations, including recent advances in designing, analysing and reporting natural experimental evaluations. The morning will be made up of lectures and practical sessions outlining key concepts and the afternoon will comprise applied examples of natural experimental evaluations.

In addition, EUPHA-EPI organized a workshop entitled “Quality of COVID-19 science: meta-research and the ethical implications for public health” on Thursday 10 November from 15.00 to 16.00. This workshop will examine the role of meta-research in addressing some of the COVID-19 pandemic research challenges and give an overview of the concept of “the science” as an idea used in public decision-making and policy. Earlier in the morning from 9.00 to 10.00, EUPHA-EPI will be also contributing to the EUPHA cross-sectional workshop "Research Methods for Public Health Oriented Health Services Research – what works where and for what?" with a presentation on the use of traditional and innovative epidemiological study designs for public health relevant inferences. Contribution from the audience will be sought during this workshop.

On Friday 11 November, from 9.00 to 10.00, in the round table "Health care systems, health service provision, and equity in health", a proposal to integrate health systems, health services and population health research will be presented. While on Saturday 12 November from 11.40 to 12.40, we recommend you follow the co-organised workshop about “Injury Severity Classification and burden of disability measurement”.

Here is a summarising document of the EUPHA-EPI activities at the EPH Conference 2022.

See you at the conference,

Stefania and Angelo
