Welcome to the first edition of the EUPHAnxt newsletter in 2025. Please scroll down to the EUPHAnxt team updates, as we have some very exciting news to share with you! This first newsletter of 2025 will provide an overview of the upcoming year, including EUPHAnxt events and other opportunities, the upcoming European Public Health Week and the European Public Health Conference (EPH).

For those of you who are new, EUPHAnxt is a unique network within EUPHA for students and young professionals, including early-career researchers and policymakers in the field of public health. EUPHAnxt is a free and open initiative that aims to inform and involve future generations in the European and multidisciplinary network of public health associations. Please note: this newsletter is distributed to our network on the first Monday of each month.

You are encouraged to share related opportunities and events with us, and we would be pleased to disseminate them to our network. EUPHAnxt is open to partnering with student organisations in Europe. If you are a part of an organisation that may be interested in joining forces, please contact us.

Welcome our next EUPHAnxt Co-Coordinators

We are excited to introduce our two new coordinators for EUPHAnxt, who will be instrumental in guiding our initiatives and fostering collaboration within the network. Their diverse expertise and passion for public health will bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to our community. Please join us in welcoming Jinane Ghattas and Patrícia Pita Ferreira as they embark on this journey with us!

Jinane Ghattas is a scientist in the Implementation, Monitoring, and Evaluation (IME) team at the Cancer Centre of Sciensano, the Belgian Health Institute. Jinane is also a PhD student at the Institute of Health and Society (IRSS) and the Faculty of Public Health at the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain) and is investigating social inequalities in COVID-19 outcomes. She holds a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy (Lebanese International University) and a master’s degree in public health, focusing on advanced statistical methods and health policy (UCLouvain).

Patrícia Pita Ferreira is a medical doctor specialist in public health and a PhD candidate at the ELSA-NN Lab (University Medical Center in Groningen, the Netherlands). Her research centres on integrating ethical, legal, and social aspects (ELSA) in implementing Artificial Intelligence in healthcare, focusing on regulatory sandboxes as environments for innovation and testing. She has a Master’s in Public Health from the National School of Public Health (Lisbon) and postgraduate degrees in Information Management and Business Intelligence in Healthcare, Travel Medicine and Public Health Communication.

Call for vacancies within EUPHAnxt

Open Call: Join the EUPHAnxt Team as Capacity Building Manager or Conference Manager!

Are you passionate about public health and eager to help shape the next generation of public health professionals in Europe? EUPHAnxt, the European Public Health Association’s network for students, young, early career researchers, policymakers and professionals in the field of public health, is looking for a Capacity-Building Manager and a Conference Manager to join our dynamic team! The age limit for both positions is no older than 30 years, and the positions are for a maximum of three years. Please note that all the work is done on a voluntary basis!

About the Role of Capacity-Building Manager

As Capacity-Building Manager, you will play a vital role in supporting the growth and development of EUPHAnxt by:

  • Organizing Webinars and Events: Plan and host skill-building sessions, workshops, and networking events for EUPHAnxt members in collaboration with other members of the EUPHAnxt team.
  • Strengthening Team Capacity: Facilitate activities that help the EUPHAnxt team grow and collaborate more effectively.

About the Role of Conference Manager:

As a Conference Manager, you will play a vital role in supporting the growth and development of EUPHAnxt by working closely with the Coordinators in planning and overlooking activities.

  • One of the key activities of the Conference Manager is to coordinate the activities related to the annual European Public Health Conference, including the submission of workshop abstracts, as well as the organisation of the social event for EUPHAnxt members. What We’re Looking For:

  • A student, young or early-career professional with a background in public health or a related field.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for networking and capacity-building.
  • Previous experience in project management is a plus but not required.

What You’ll Gain:

  • The opportunity to work with an international team and make an impact on the future of public health in Europe.
  • Valuable experience in leadership, networking, and capacity-building.
  • It provides an excellent opportunity to expand your network under the auspices of EUPHAnxt.

The EuroNet MRPH (European Network of Medical Residents in Public Health) is hosting an online session within their EuroTuesday series on engaging early career public health professionals. The European Public Health Week (EUPHW) aims to raise awareness about public health and promote collaboration among the public health community in Europe. EUPHW is an annual initiative organised and coordinated by EUPHA. It began in 2019 and keeps growing. Read more about the past editions. The seventh EUPHW will take place between 12 – 16 May 2025. Do not miss the last day of the EUPHW, dedicated to the next generation in public health – students, young and early career professionals!

The 18th EPH Conference will take place in Helsinki, Finland, from 11 – 14 November 2025. Pre-conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, 11 November, followed by the main conference from 12 – 14 November. The theme for 2025 is: “Investing for Sustainable Health and Well-Being.” Learn more about the conference theme here. The abstract submission is now open and registration opens on 1 April 2025.

Reflections on the First Edition of the EUPHAnxt Mentoring Programme

We recently concluded the first edition of the mentoring programme, and we’re excited to share some of the experiences of our mentees. The national conference of UK Registrars (residents) in Public Health will take place on the 23rd of May at the University of Strathclyde’s Technology and Innovation Centre (TIC) in Glasgow, Scotland.
