We are pleased to announce the appointment of Tiago Correia as the new Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Public Health (EJPH), EUPHA’s scientific journal.
Tiago Correia is Associate Professor of Global Public Health at the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (Portugal). He brings extensive academic and leadership experience at the intersection of public health research, policy, and practice.
EJPH has long been recognised as a leading journal for public health in Europe, combining scientific excellence with policy relevance. For Tiago, taking on the role of Editor-in-Chief represents both an honour and a responsibility at a time of significant transformation for public health.
Public health is facing a convergence of challenges, including geopolitical instability, climate change, demographic shifts, digital transformation and persistent inequalities, while also being under increasing political and societal scrutiny,” he notes. “EJPH has a vital role to play as a space for thoughtful, evidence-informed and forward-looking debate.
Vision and priorities for EJPH
As Editor-in-Chief, Tiago aims to further strengthen the journal’s role in publishing work that connects high-quality empirical research with governance, decision-making, policy implementation, and real-world impact across the full breadth of public health.
A central priority will be closer alignment between EJPH and the EUPHA community, including its Sections, which reflect the diversity of disciplines, methods, and policy domains that shape European public health. Strengthening these links will help ensure the journal continues to serve as a shared scientific and policy platform – one that supports meaningful public engagement, accountable decision-making, and democratic institutions across Europe.
Professionally, this role offers an opportunity to help shape the direction of public health scholarship in Europe,” Tiago explains. “Personally, it reflects a long-standing commitment to strengthening the link between research, policy and practice, and to supporting a plural, inclusive and critical public health community.
Looking ahead
Under Tiago’s leadership, EJPH will continue to evolve as a journal that not only reflects the complexity of today’s public health challenges, but actively contributes to constructive dialogue across countries, traditions, and sectors.
To ensure continuity and a smooth transition, Tiago will work closely with Peter Allebeck, the current Editor-in-Chief, over the coming months. This handover period will support knowledge transfer and maintain the journal’s high editorial standards.
EUPHA looks forward to working closely with Tiago in this new role and to supporting the continued development of the European Journal of Public Health as a cornerstone of European public health research and debate.
