Teresa Donà joins EUPHA to support CUE-CAN communications

EUPHA welcomes Teresa Donà to its communications team as a fellow supporting CUE-CAN, a major European research project investigating the role of environmental factors in cancer among children and young adults.

Teresa recently graduated with distinction from an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree in European Studies, studying across France, Poland and Mexico. She brings experience in international programme coordination and intercultural communications, alongside a personal connection to cancer research and patient advocacy.

At EUPHA, Teresa will help develop the CUE-CAN website and draft content for the website and social media. Working closely with our communications team, she will gain practical experience in translating complex scientific information into clear, accessible communications for audiences beyond the research community.

Her work will help explain what CUE-CAN is investigating, why the research matters and how partners across Europe and Canada are contributing.

Investigating environmental factors in childhood cancer

CUE-CAN brings together researchers from a number of European countries and Canada to investigate environmental exposures that may contribute to cancer in children and young adults.

The project will focus on exposures before birth and during early life, studying children and young adults. Researchers will search for substances that may cause cancer and investigate their potential role in the development of these diseases.

An increase in cancer diagnoses among adolescents and young adults has raised questions about whether environmental exposures may play a greater role than previously thought. Through rigorous research, CUE-CAN aims to strengthen the evidence on potential external causes of childhood cancer. In the longer term, this evidence could inform regulations that help prevent some cases.

Making complex research accessible

Clear communication will be essential to helping people understand the project’s aims and, as the research progresses, its findings. This includes explaining the questions researchers are exploring and distinguishing between potential risks and established evidence.

Teresa’s fellowship offers an opportunity to develop these skills while contributing to a collaborative international project connecting environmental health, cancer research and prevention.

We are pleased to welcome Teresa to EUPHA and look forward to working with her.
