Dear section members,

Did you know that the EUPHA Social Security, Work and Health section is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year? Congratulations to all of us! To celebrate this milestone, we are planning some activities for this year, which will be announced later.

In this newsletter we will tell you about this year’s past and upcoming activities.

Short reflections on the 5th in-between webinar organized by the EUPHA Social security work and health section

The SSWH section’s Future Group hosted the 5th in-between online conference in March 11. The webinar was filled with presentations from young researchers on various topics, such as work functioning among teachers with hearing loss, the social context in substance use within homeless shelters in three global cities, activity restrictions, treatments and work disability among people with multiple sclerosis and benefit conditionality and the self-perceived health among unemployed in Europe. We want to thank all the presenters and the participants for inspiring presentations and lively discussions!

The presenters were Arnold Schriemer, PhD student/Occupational physician, University Medical Center Groningen, The Netherlands; Sotiria Kyriakidou, PhD Student/Social Worker, Department of Human Geography, Manchester, UK; Fitsum Sebsibe Teni, Postdoc, Division of Insurance Medicine, Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden and Christoph Henking, PhD student, Department of Social Policy and Intervention, Oxford University, UK

PRECONFERENCE at the EPH Conference on Tuesday November 11th, 2025

We invite you to join our pre-conference linking climate change to social security, work and health in Helsinki in November. Climate change is impacting working life in various ways, with both immediate and long-term consequences for workers. This pre-conference will focus on the direct and indirect impacts of climate change on work and health, and how climate change affects wider societal measures, such as work ability and sickness absence.

Information on the speakers and the program will follow.

Best regards from the steering committee of the Social Security, Work and Health section,
Emilie Friberg, Agnes Meershoek, Claus Hansen, Femke Abma, Laura Salonen and Ute Bültmann
