Happy Summer and welcome to the July edition of the EUPHAnxt newsletter. Applications for the fellowship programme for the upcoming European Public Health (EPH) conference in Dublin, Ireland are closed but we are pleased to announce our selected fellows:

  Upcoming events








The Irish Global Health Network (IGHN) is hosting a Global Health Summer School which is a three-day training programme with the overarching theme “Global Health in Changing Times” including sub-themes including: Global Mental Health; Global Health and Migration; Emergency and Disaster Preparedness. The IGHN summer school will run in-person over four days, from Thursday evening to Sunday afternoon. Learn more here!

The European Health Forum Gastein (EHFG) 2023 which will focus on how to ride out the current shockwaves and explore how crises can help catalyse the development of new approaches to health system problems. The event will take place both online and in-person and the full programme is available online now. Learn more here! The EHFG is also accepting applications for their European Health Leadership Award and the winner will be expected to participate in the Award ceremony taking place in Bad Hofgastein in September 2023 in the context of the EHFG 2023.

The 16th European Public Health Conference (EPH) will be held in Dublin, Ireland and the conference will focus on a sustainable future. Abstract submission is now closed, however registration is open and you can benefit from early-bird fees and special student fees until September 1st. Learn more about the conference here. Applications are now being accepted for the Jouke van der Zee Fund, which provides awardees from low- and middle-income European countries to attend the annual EPH Conferences.

The pre-conference programme for the #EPH2023 will take place on Wednesday, November 8th and the full event list can be found on the conference website. Please note: pre-conference registration is a separate registration from the main conference and registration fees are €75 and €150, and sponsored pre-conferences are €20. All include a networking buffet lunch.

  • 9:00-12:30: Master that elevator: how to effectively pitch you research to policy makers. A capacity building session for young professionals
  • 9:00- 17:00: A hands-on introduction to qualitative research methods in public health

Thursday, November 9 (workshop)

  • 16:40- 17:40: Skills building seminar: Sharp Pencils, Clear Minds: Translating research to policy through effective policy briefs

Friday, November 10 (workshop)

  • 9:00- 10:00: Round table: Implementing Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan: Challenges and opportunities from European countries
  • 15:10- 16:10: Round table: Legal determinants of health – what do (global) public health professionals need to know?
  • 15:10- 16:10: Round table: Is public health possible when LGBTQI+ individuals are criminalised? A roundtable and call to action
  • 16:40- 17:40: Skills building seminar: Improving your elevator pitch: convincing a policymaker in a matter of seconds

Saturday, November 11 (workshop)

  • 11:40- 12:40: Skills building seminar: A seat at the table: Engaging patients and citizens in public health policy-making
  • 13:50- 14:50: Skills building seminar: Navigating the ocean of data: unpacking ethical values in Health Technology Assessment

Please note: we are planning another Join the Network session for the conference, however the date and time is to be determined. Stay tuned to our next newsletter for more information.

ESCAIDE is the European Scientific Conference for Applied Infectious Disease Epidemiology, organised by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). The call for abstracts for this year’s conference is now closed but they plan to open up a submission for late break abstracts in September. Registration is free and the conference is available online, as well as in person (Barcelona, Spain). Learn more here!

The School of Population Health within RCSI is seeking a PhD candidate for the upcoming school year to work on the STEP-UP project: Investigating the role of thinking STyle and defensive information processing in cancer scrEening Participation: An opportunity to improve UPtake of organised screening. The European Association for Cancer Research has launched a podcast series called The Cancer Researcher Podcast. The fifth episode is now available and relevant for our subscribers. Listen to “Building Networks.”


Giving Health a Voice is the podcast of the European Public Health Alliance (EPHA), bringing public health to the fore and discussing the most pressing issues with experts in the field. It will speak to both those with a stake in health and those whose health is at stake. The fifth episode discusses the Rome Manifesto, an action towards safeguarding public health.
