Dear HSR section members,

Some may have already received the newsletter below. Due to a technical error we are resending. Apologies if you receive this twice!

Next week, many members will attend at the 17th European Public Health Conference in Lisbon, Portugal, to exchange views on the theme ‘Sailing the waves of European public health: exploring a sea of innovation’.

For those present at the conference, we have highlighted a number of sessions below, including our ‘Join the Network-meeting’ on Wednesday 13 November (12:55-13:55 hrs in room 3B).

The newsletter also contains a save-the-date for a first online training event on EU grant application, organized by the Section HSR in collaboration with EUPHAnxt and EUPHA offices on 13 December 2024 (see details below).

In addition, we provide an overview of relevant HSR related news, including upcoming events that may be of interest.

Sessions supported or co-organised by the Section HSR at the EPH Conference 12-17 November, Lisbon

  • Join the Network meeting of the Section HSR: All attendees are welcome to attend the JTN meeting (Wed 13th, 12.55-13.55, room 3B). The meeting, chaired by Lorena Dini, will allow to network with fellow Section members, to share ideas for joint collaboration, such as future conference sessions, training events, etc. We also welcome any suggestions by e-mail, and see our contact details below.
  • Session “Health literacy of children and adolescents across Europe” (Wed 13th 9:00-10:00, Room 5A). Co-organised with the Section Health Literacy the session will present recent insights relating to the health literacy of children in particular.
  • Session “From policy to implementation: Learnings around health system reforms and Universal Health Coverage” (Wed 13th, 16.45-17.45, room 3B). Led by Trinity College Dublin, the session will address how to learn from Universal Health Coverage reforms, both globally and in a selection of country case studies.
  • Round table “Harnessing Patient-Reported Data for Health Innovation: Insights from the OECD PaRIS Initiative” (Thu 14th, 11.45-12.45, room 3C). The session will present and discuss lessons from the Patient-Reported Indicator Surveys (PaRIS) conducted by the PaRIS consortium on behalf of the OECD.
  • Session “Advancing Health and Care System Transformation with the THCS Partnership” (Wed 13th, 15:15-16:15, room 3C). Co-organised with the THCS Partnership and Section HTA, the session will present the current status of the Partnership, which is funding international health services and implementation research via annual calls for a 7-year period in a large number of EU Member States, and non-EU partner countries (see also the THCS website at https://www.thcspartnership.eu/) .
  • Session “Coordinated actions to improve our response to Long COVID at EU and national levels” (Thu 14th, 16:45-17:45, Room 3C) will present recent work by DG SANTE, Nivel and OEC regarding international initiatives to synthesise intelligence and improve our response to long COVID at EU level.

For a full overview of all sessions at the EPH Conference, please also check the conference website and Abstract Supplement of the European Journal of Public Health.

Save-the-date for online training session on EU Grant Preparation, Friday 13 December 2024, 14-16 hrs CET (Brussels time)

  • The online session aims to support Section members and other interested parties to become more familiar with EU funding programmes, including elements to consider when identifying and interpreting call topics, how to join and build a consortium and how to write and submit a proposal.
  • Focus will be on funding programmes that allow for research groups to apply, such as Horizon Europe and EU4Health, rather than funding schemes for individual scholars (such as Marie Curie or ERC grants).
  • The session will be open to all interested audiences, and in particular those who are relatively new to recent EU funding instruments, including junior-, medior- or senior researchers, so far mostly having focused on national funding schemes.
  • The session will be co-organised with EUPHA office and EUPHAnxt. Given its introductory nature, it will likely be the first of a series of online training seminars on EU proposal writing, with future events zooming in closer on those areas which are of greatest interest.
  • We will circulate a dedicated invitation in the next weeks. In the mean time, feel free to share this announcement with fellow colleagues who might be interested.

Join us!

  • Meeting in-person at the EPH Conference: Lorena Dini (Section Vice President) will be present at the EPH Conference, and happy to meet fellow Section members, both at the Join the Network meeting or during one of the breaks. Johan Hansen (Section President) will unfortunately not be present this year due to family circumstances. It will of course also be possible to reach out to us via e-mail. If so, please write to lorena.dini@charite.de and/or j.hansen@nivel.nl
  • EUPHA-HSR section steering committee: Do you want to engage more often and take more responsibilities to support our HSR section? We would be happy if you can offer some of your valuable time. Let us know about your interest in joining the EUPHA HSR steering committee. Activities include i.e. contributing to joint statements, editorials or section events, like our incoming EU Grant Training on 13 December 2024.

Best regards,

Johan Hansen & Lorena Dini
