Dear colleagues,

Alongside my WHO Collaborating Center for Health Literacy colleagues Dr. Alexandra Fretian and Dr. Denise Renninger, we are currently co-editing a special issue on health literacy in a in newly launched journal titled “Discover Public Health” by Springer Nature. Formerly Emerging Themes in Epidemiology (2023 Impact Factor: 3.6), Discover Public Health was recently renamed and is expected to receive its first Impact Factor under the new name in 2026.

We would like to invite you to submit papers to our Discover Public Health Collection “Health Literacy at the Crossroads of Shaping Healthy Lives and at the Mercy of Socioeconomic Influences”.

We welcome a broad variety of health literacy themed publications. If you are unsure whether your paper would fit our scope, you can provide us with a brief abstract beforehand. Please direct all communications primarily to

Alexandra Fretian: a.fretian@tum.de and
Denise Renninger: denise.renninger@tum.de.

The submission deadline is Nov 30, 2025. Of course, early submissions are highly welcome. Discover Public Health is a completely open access journal and publication costs for Discover Public Health are fully covered by Springer Nature until 31 Dec 2025. Authors whose articles are accepted for publication before that date will not pay an article-processing charge (APC). For more details, please refer to our submission guidelines:

To submit your manuscript as part of our Collection, please follow the steps detailed on this page. When submitting your manuscript, you will need to indicate that you are submitting your manuscript to a Collection. To do so, on the ‘Details’ page select the “Health Literacy at the Crossroads of Shaping Healthy Lives and at the Mercy of Socioeconomic Influences” Collection from the drop-down list. Please also mention your interest in the Collection in the cover letter.

We are looking forward to your contribution!
