Greetings from the EUPHA section Social Security, Work and Health. We have had a wonderful and very active year, and our section’s has gained many new members! In this newsletter you will find a summary of the most important event of the year and an overview of upcoming events.
Wrapping up the EPH conference 2025
It was great to see so many of you at the European Public Health Conference in Helsinki, especially at our Section’s preconference, the workshops, and many oral and poster sessions. Thank you all for an inspiring conference with great discussions and interactions in and around Veranda 4 of the Finlandia Hall! Below you will find a few reflections and save the dates for 2026.
The SSWH preconference on “Planetary health – impacts on our health, well-being and work” on 11.11. was the perfect kick-off of several SSWH activities. In one day, we learned a lot about this relevant topic from different perspectives in presentations and through exchange in discussions. A big thank you again to Marianna Virtanen, Katriina Hyvönen, Veera Nieminen, Femke Abma, Reija Ruuhela and Emilie Friberg for organizing this timely preconference.
The SSWH scientific workshop on “Work, mental health and labour market participation of young workers: perspectives from five European countries” was organized by Jeppe Karl Busk Sørensen, Malte van Veen and Pi Fagerlund and conducted jointly with the EUPHA sections Public Mental Health and Public Health Economics. Three excellent scientific presentations were followed by reflections from Jutta Lindert and João Vasco Santos and exciting discussions with the audience. Here also a big thank you again for organizing – and participating in – this exciting workshop.
Our annual Join the Network meeting was a great success with many fruitful interactions and lots of ideas for the years to come from a broad variety of attendees from different disciplines and countries. We were very honored with the reflections of emeritus professor Kristina Alexanderson from the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden on the 25-year anniversary of our SSWH section. Kristina established the section in Paris in 2000 and alluded to the past 25 years. We are happy to announce that Kristina is so kind to share a summary of the history with us in the next newsletter.
