Dear Health promotion section members,

For those who attended the European Public Health Conference in Lisbon, it was a pleasure reconnecting with you. We returned from this beautiful city inspired by new ideas on how to better engage you in our activities and strengthen the position of health promotion across Europe. Currently, we are working diligently on the HP Section Strategic Plan for 2025.

From the discussions during the “Join the Network” (JtN) meeting in Lisbon, it was clear that many members are eager to contribute to our initiatives. Mental health promotion emerged as a top priority in our survey, and we plan to launch working groups to address key topics.

Stay tuned! In the coming months, we will announce new activities and projects. Also, don’t miss our next webinar this Friday (details below).

Whenever you feel isolated in advocating for greater investment in health promotion programs and policies, remember that the EUPHA Health Promotion Section is just an email away at Eric.Breton@ehesp.fr. Please share your challenges with us, and we’ll connect you with our vibrant community of practitioners, researchers, and decision-makers.

Enjoy the holiday season and thank you for reading this newsletter.

Warm regards,

Eric Breton
President of the Health Promotion Section

Announcing the New Working Group on Rural Public Health

We are excited to launch a new Working Group on Rural Public Health, led by Professor Geir Arild Espnes (NTNU Center for Health Promotion Research, Norway). This initiative will address the unique public health challenges faced by rural populations in Europe.

Professor Espnes emphasizes the urgent need for this initiative. “While EUPHA has a dedicated section for Urban Public Health, there is currently no equivalent focus on Rural Public Health, despite its critical importance,” he notes.

Objectives:

  1. Raise Awareness: Highlight the public health issues faced by rural communities.
  2. Build Collaboration: Foster partnerships among researchers, professionals, and stakeholders.

Healthy rural populations are vital for well-being and for sustaining key sectors like food production. Rural living can also help alleviate pressures from urban expansion.

Get Involved:

If you’re interested in contributing, including participating in a 2025 webinar, email Geir at: geir.arild.espnes@ntnu.no.

Our initial goal is to form a core group of committed researchers.

Let’s work together to advance rural public health!
