European Public Health Week 2025 to launch at the European Parliament

EUPHA will launch European Public Health Week (EUPHW) 2025 on 12 May with a high-level hybrid event live from the European Parliament in Brussels. Under the theme Innovation for Resilience: Shaping a Sustainable Future, the session brings together public health leaders, EU policymakers, and on-the-ground professionals to explore how innovation can drive sustainable, resilient health systems in Europe and beyond.

Co-moderated by Charlotte Marchandise, Executive Director of EUPHA, and Dr Dheepa Rajan, Senior Advisor at the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, the launch event features a distinguished panel of speakers:

  • Dr Raed Arafat, Secretary of State of Romania and Chair of NATO’s Joint Health Group

  • Dr Hans Kluge, Regional Director for WHO Europe

  • Lorena Boix Alonso, Deputy Director-General, DG SANTE, European Commission

  • MEP Nicu Ștefănuță, Vice-President of the European Parliament

  • Laurent Muschel, Director, DG HERA, European Commission

The session will also feature powerful civilian perspectives from Ukraine and Romania, offering real-life insights into public health innovation in times of crisis:

  • Yuliia Ovchar (Ukraine) – on maintaining healthcare services amid conflict

  • Irina Mateescu (Romania) – on lessons from past public health emergencies
