2. EUPHA update
EUPHA at the Expert Meeting on Professionalization of the Public Health Workforce
On the 19th of June, WHO Europe organised the Expert Meeting on Professionalization of the Public Health Workforce, organised in London. EUPHA was represented at this meeting by Dr Ellen Kuhlmann, president of our EUPHA section on Health workforce research.
EUPHA responds to Public consultation on excise duties applied to manufactured tobacco and the possible taxation of novel products
EUPHA responded to the public consultation on excise duties applied to manufactured tobacco and the possible taxation of novel products. In the response the importance of public health is highlighted and the need to discourage the use of tobacco and novel products such as e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products, including vaping and juuling. We invite our partners and members to also respond this consultation.
EUPHA representative re-appointed to the ECDC Advisory Forum
EUPHA is very pleased that Dr Aura Timen, president of the EUPHA section on Infectious diseases control has been (re) nominated as a member of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) Advisory Forum for another 3 years. Through the ECDC Advisory Forum membership, EUPHA has a wonderful opportunity to actively contribute to ECDC’s objectives and plans.
EUPHA represented at the annual EHMA conference
EUPHA was represented at the 2018 annual EHMA (European Health Management Association) organised from 20-22 June in Budapest, Hungary by Dr Ellen Kuhlmann, president of the EUPHA section on Health workforce research. EUPHA and EHMA have a long-standing partnership to support each others’ activities.
New partnership with EPA/UNEPSA
On the 6th of July, EUPHA and the European Paediatrics Association/Union of National Paediatrics Societies and Associations signed a partnership agreement. EPA/UNEPSA will work closely together with the EUPHA section on Child and adolescent public health. At the Ljubljana 2018 conference, the EUPHA section on Child and adolescent public health and EPA/UNEPSA are organising a round bable on child health and policy on Friday 30 November 2018.
EUPHA congratulates the European Observatory on its 20th anniversary
EUPHA was one of the many invited organisations to join the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policy to celebrate their 20th anniversary on 26 June 2018 in Brussels. EUPHA and the European Observatory have been working successfully together for many years.
EUPHAnxt at the EuroNet MRPH meeting
The annual EuroNet MRPH (medical residents in public health) was organised this year in Valencia, Spain (12-15 July). Our EUPHAnxt coordinator, Sara McQuinn, participated in this meeting to reinforce the already existing close collaboration between EUPHAnxt and EuroNet MRPH.
EUPHA represented at a meeting on transforming consumers and health-oriented society.
The Slovenian Business and Research Association, the representation office of Slovenian businesses, research organisations and municipalities in Brussels, organised a conference titled »Transforming Consumers and Health-Oriented Society through Science and Innovation« on Wednesday, 20 June 2018. EUPHA was represented here by Dr Tek Ang-Lim, president of the EUPHA section on Public health economics, who also gave a presentation during the conference. For EUPHA, it was a great way of finding out more about the initiatives taking at Slovenian level.

4. EUPHA members update
Errata: ASPHER’s new president
In our June newsletter, we informed you of the election of Prof John Middleton, president of the UK Faculty of Public Health, as incoming president of ASPHER. We thanked Prof Kasia Czabanowska for her work, but forgot to mention that Kasia will remain ASPHER president until 2020. We apologize for this misunderstanding and continue to work with Kasia as ASPHER president.
Update from the Albanian Epidemiological Association
During 2017, the association has been engaged in the project EUscreen which aims at early identification of children with hearing problems. During 2017 the project has worked on preparation phase of screening children in four Maternity hospitals in three cities: Tirane, Kukes and Pogradec and during 2018 has started the screening process in the pre-selected maternity Hospitals.
RIVM on shortlist Best Government Organisation of the Year 2018
Our institutional member, the Netherlands Institute for public health and the environment, has made the shortlist for the 2018 election for best government organisation of the year. In all, more than thirty organisations were nominated for the election. RIVM and nine other government organisations have made the shortlist. The three finalists will be announced in September.
French Society of Public Health supportive of public consultation to add nutri-value to advertisements
The French Society of Public Health (SFSP) is actively supporting the public consultation demanding that nutri-values are included in all food advertisements in France.

Celebrating another successful year of Public Health Impact Factors from Oxford University Press
The 2017 Impact Factors from the 2017 Journal Citation Reports® (Clarivate Analytics, 2018) have been released, and it’s been another great year for Oxford University Press Public Health journals with a number of titles achieving an increase. Funding for e-Health – Connecting Europe – Call for Proposals Is Open
The Connecting Europe Facility call aims at improving European digital services, including e-health. A €5 million budget is available for projects seeking to enhance cross-border healthcare access and provide better services using ICT tools. Deadline: 29 November 2018.

March 2019 special issue – Deadline for submissions 31-09-2018
Public Health Panorama calls for the submission of papers for a special issue on health information and evidence in the WHO European Region, including innovations in big data, reporting on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), health information systems strengthening, and digital health applications such as eHealth and mHealth. The special issue will be published in March 2019 and will focus on innovative policy and practice from across the European Region.

Turkey monitors noncommunicable disease risk factors among its population
Better noncommunicable disease outcomes: challenges and opportunities for health systems – Kazakhstan (2018)
Kazakhstan has one of the highest rates of premature mortality due to noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) in the WHO European Region: the rate in 2012 was 648.31 per 100 000 population aged 30–69 years.

Portuguese Minister of Health Dr Adalberto Campos Fernandes announced on 5 July 2018 that Portugal has achieved 2 of the 3 HIV targets set by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), known as the 90–90–90 targets. This puts the country on track to reach all 3 targets ahead of the 2020 deadline.
Evidence-informed Policy Network (EVIPNet) Europe: success stories in
Evidence-informed Policy Network (EVIPNet) Europe was launched in 2012 by the WHO Regional Office for Europe as a capacitybuilding mechanism for knowledge translation (KT). The study presented here focuses on five EVIPNet Europe member countries and their experiences with implementing EVIPNet Europe, and how EVIPNet membership and tools benefited them in their endeavour to improve and institutionalize evidenceinformed health policy- making.
