Our mission and focus areas

The EUPHA Health promotion section aims to promote exchange of research, training, and practice expertise in health promotion among European experts. It also aims to stimulate and support joint research projects of its members. The Section serves as a platform for the discussion of the theoretical foundations for health promotion as well as for advocating for health promotion within EUPHA and beyond.

Background information

The Health Promotion Section was founded at the 1995 annual EUPHA meeting in Budapest by Heiko Waller and Alf Trojan. Today the Health Promotion Section has more than 2000 members (active and passive).

The Health Promotion Section usually meets during the annual EUPHA conferences and organises workshops around actual topics. The section actively promotes publications of selected papers from these workshops.

The Health Promotion Section works together with other EUPHA sections in organizing workshops and pre-conferences and with other European organisations and initiatives in the field, especially with the European Regional Office of the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE) and with the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER).
