Abstract

Marit Eika Jørgensen is a Professor at Ilisimatusarfik’s Institute of Health & Nature and Director of the Steno Diabetes Center Greenland. A specialist in endocrinology, she has devoted much of her career to understanding diabetes among the Greenlandic Inuit population. Her research bridges public health, epidemiology, and genetics to explore how heredity, environment, and lifestyle interact to shape disease patterns in isolated populations. In her talk, “Genetic and Epidemiological Perspectives on Public Health in Greenland”, she will discuss how large-scale genetic mapping in Greenland has provided new insights into the epidemiology of diabetes and how this knowledge informs targeted prevention and treatment strategies to improve population health in Greenland.
