Thematic workshops at EPH Conference 2026

Six thematic workshops, prepared with DG SANTE and HaDEA, look at what EU health policy is delivering on the ground: from the Safe Hearts Plan and Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan to EU preparedness rules and the first joint clinical assessments under the HTA Regulation. Each one brings EU officials, researchers and practitioners into the same discussion.

From recommendation to reality: how can health checks support better cardiovascular outcomes?

Practical info:
Thursday 12 November, 09:00-10:00, Melia hotel Rooms 1+2

EU4Health priority:
Cancer, cardiovascular and other non-communicable diseases

Summary:
Most cardiovascular disease is preventable, yet it remains the leading cause of death in the EU. Early detection is one of the three pillars of the Safe Hearts Plan adopted in December 2025. This workshop looks at how health checks can work in practice, and what Member States gain from doing it together.

Exploring the links between AMR and NCDs: a One Health perspective

Practical info:
Thursday 12 November, 15:15-16:15, Room 3g

EU4Health priority:
One Health approach

Summary:
Antimicrobial resistance and non-communicable diseases are usually tackled separately, yet people living with cancer or diabetes are more exposed to resistant infections. This workshop connects the two through a One Health lens, with attention to the disadvantaged groups who carry most of both burdens.

Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan: how EU4Health grants drive innovation and access to diagnosis and care

Practical info:
Thursday 12 November, 15:15-16:15, Room 0e>1

EU4Health priority:
Cancer, cardiovascular and other non-communicable diseases

Summary:
Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan aims to reduce the cancer burden and the inequalities around it. This roundtable shows how EU4Health grants, new technologies including AI, and the European Health Data Space can widen access to diagnosis and care, and who risks being left behind.

The EU’s evidence-informed approach to future-proof preparedness planning for health threats

Practical info:
Thursday 12 November, 16:45-17:45, Room 3g

EU4Health priority:
Health security

Summary:
Health crises force fast choices on who to protect first and at what cost. Regulation (EU) 2022/2371 on serious cross-border threats to health set up EU mechanisms for evidence-informed decisions. This roundtable explains how they work, how lessons from simulation exercises feed into planning, and how they are used in a crisis.

Who uses EU HTA evidence? Early experience with joint clinical assessments

Practical info:
Friday 13 Nov, 09:00-10:00, Melia hotel Rooms 3+4

EU4Health priority:

Pharmaceuticals and medical devices; biotechnology

Summary:

Under the HTA Regulation (EU) 2021/2282, Member States now assess new health technologies together through joint clinical assessments. The first reports are out. This roundtable looks at who is using them, how, and what that means for faster and fairer access to innovation.

A just transition for a healthy society: leveraging co-benefits to build sustainable resilience

Practical information:

Friday 13 November, 11:45-12:45, Room 3f

EU4Health priority:
One Health approach (climate and health)

Summary:

The move to a net-zero economy can bring large health gains, but they are rarely counted and unevenly shared. This roundtable asks how to make the health co-benefits of the green transition count in policy, and how to make sure they reach those who need them most.
