Public health genomics is an emerging field that focuses on translating genomic knowledge into population-level health benefits, shifting the perspective from individual patient care to public health strategies and policies.

This session will explore how genomics is being integrated into public health across Europe, highlighting both opportunities and challenges in moving from a clinical, patient-centered approach to a system-level, prevention-oriented framework.

The discussion will feature leading experts presenting national and international experiences:

  • Genomics for Public Health in 2026 – Martina Cornel
  • Public health genomics in the Netherlands: examples and challenges – Carla Van El
  • Cascade testing for BRCA in the Essential Level of Care in Italy – Stefania Boccia
  • Genomic Medicine in Portugal: developing a national strategy – Astrid Vicente

By bringing together different national perspectives, the event aims to foster dialogue on how to effectively integrate genomics into public health systems, addressing ethical, organizational, and policy challenges while advancing toward more preventive and population-based healthcare models.
