Extreme climate events are no abstract risk in Portugal, they're a recurring national crisis. Our country consistently ranks among Europe's hardest hit for wildfires, registering the EU's highest burned area percentage in 2025. Beyond environmental and economic devastation, they trigger respiratory and cardiovascular diseases from smoke, traumatic injuries, and often-overlooked mental health disorders like PTSD and eco-anxiety.

This workshop spotlights action on wildfires and extreme climate events' mental health toll. The workshop will share evidence, frontline responses, and municipal strategies to rally the health sector, local governments, and communities towards mental health responses, while also discussing the role of civil society in tackling mental health issues. This workshop will include a presentation of the latest evidence, followed by break-out room discussions on the role of different sectors in mental health response.
