As part of the European Public Health Week 2026, this event will focus on strengthening the health workforce through improved capacities for elderly care in primary health care in Kosovo.
Kosovo is experiencing a growing ageing population and an increasing burden of chronic conditions, while lacking specialized geriatric services and trained professionals in elderly care. In response, the National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo has led capacity-building initiatives targeting primary health care professionals.
This roundtable discussion will convene representatives from primary health care, government institutions, municipalities, civil society, and development partners to reflect on current challenges and share experiences. Through a structured and moderated discussion, participants will identify key gaps in workforce capacities, explore opportunities for improving training and service delivery, and propose concrete actions for the next 12 months.
The event will result in a short document outlining key messages and recommendations to support policy dialogue and future interventions in strengthening elderly care within primary health care.
