EUPHAnxt Lunch Session | Bridging Evidence and Policy: Public Health Communication Amid Misinformation

On 17 June, EUPHAnxt welcomed Prof. Martin McKee for an inspiring lunch session on communicating public health evidence in an era of misinformation and disinformation. Participants explored why evidence alone is often insufficient to change minds, the psychological and political factors shaping how information is received, and common pitfalls when countering false claims. The session highlighted practical strategies for communicating effectively with policymakers and the public, including tailoring messages to the audience, building trusted relationships, and combining scientific rigour with clear, accessible communication. A key message was that effective public health advocacy requires not only strong evidence, but also an understanding of human behaviour, the information environment, and the importance of supporting researchers who engage in public debate.

Stay tuned for future EUPHAnxt events, you don’t want to  miss them!
