Welcoming our new intern: Wiktoria Bicka

We are pleased to welcome Wiktoria Bicka, who joined EUPHA this month as our new intern.

Based in London, United Kingdom, Wiktoria will support a project funded by Healthy Food Healthy Planet. Her work will focus on conducting a structured literature review examining policies that hold food companies accountable for the health and sustainability impacts of their products. The aim is to produce a clear, policy-relevant synthesis to support European public health stakeholders working to create healthier food environments.

Alongside her work with EUPHA, Wiktoria is pursuing an MSc in International Health Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her academic background explores the pressures facing modern health systems and how policymakers design, finance and evaluate interventions in increasingly complex environments. She is particularly interested in health care financing, measuring health system performance and the political realities shaping reform.

Her research has increasingly focused on evidence-informed policies addressing non communicable diseases and maternal health—areas that highlight how social, economic and commercial determinants lead to avoidable and unjust health outcomes. What drives her most is the challenge of translating robust evidence into equitable, effective and feasible policy across diverse contexts.

Wiktoria shares that joining EUPHA feels like “a dream beginning to my career.” She is particularly excited to contribute to efforts that strengthen evidence-based policy, improve the use of health system resources and widen access to high-quality, preventive care.

During her internship, Wiktoria hopes to deepen her understanding of how policy windows emerge and how they can be used to advance corporate accountability in the food system. She also aims to refine her research and synthesis skills and broaden her insight into the effectiveness, feasibility and political dynamics of policy interventions.

We are delighted to welcome Wiktoria to EUPHA and look forward to her contributions.
