Do you want to help shape how public health is communicated across Europe? The European Public Health Association (EUPHA) is recruiting a Senior Communications Officer to strengthen communications across EUPHA and the EPH Conference.
This is a hands-on, high-impact role at the center of European public health, combining strategic judgment with day-to-day delivery across multiple channels and initiatives.
Location: Utrecht (hybrid)
Hours: 32–36 hours per week
Contract: 12-month fixed-term contract (Dutch law)
The role
As Senior Communications Officer, you will work closely with the Communications Manager to deliver all communications for EUPHA and the EPH Conference. From March 2026, the Communications Manager will be on maternity leave, and you will temporarily take the lead on delivering all communications.
You will report to the Executive Director and collaborate closely with the EUPHA team, the EPH Conference team, EUPHA’s 29 Sections, and external partners.
This role requires initiative, strong editorial judgment, and the ability to manage multiple parallel workstreams in a fast-moving environment.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver day-to-day communications for EUPHA and the EPH Conference across websites, newsletters, social media, publications, and briefings
- Lead communications planning and execution for the 2026 EPH Conference in Bilbao
- Lead communications planning and execution for European Public Health Week 2026
- Create high-quality written and visual content for all channels, including campaigns, project dissemination, and marketing materials
- Manage effective communication with EUPHA members, subscribers, and external stakeholders
- Support EUPHA’s 29 Sections in increasing the visibility of their work (e.g. webinars, supplements, mid-term conferences)
- Oversee communications within EU-funded projects, including dissemination activities, deliverables, and stakeholder updates
- Act as a communications contact point for EUPHA-associated entities, including the European Journal of Public Health and EUPHAnxt, as needed
- Coordinate production with external creatives (designers, photographers, videographers)
- Monitor performance across channels and use insights to support continuous improvement
- Support stakeholder and press enquiries in close collaboration with the Executive Director
Your profile
This all-round communications role brings together planning, judgment, and hands-on delivery. You:
- Are motivated by strengthening public health in Europe
- Have solid experience as a communications professional, ideally in an international, research, health, or NGO setting
- Can quickly understand complex public health topics and communicate them clearly to diverse audiences
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Are comfortable managing multiple deadlines and shifting priorities
- Advise and collaborate confidently with a wide range of stakeholders
- Work independently, anticipate needs, and keep projects moving
- Are comfortable producing polished digital and visual content yourself (e.g. CMS, Canva) and coordinating external partners
- Preferably hold a relevant master’s degree and have several years of professional experience
