EUPHA launches Behavioural and Social Science Section to strengthen public health impact

We are proud to announce the official launch of the Behavioural and Social Science Section — a new thematic network dedicated to integrating behavioural insights into public health research, policy, and practice across Europe.

Behavioural and social sciences explore how psychological, social, cultural, and contextual factors shape health-related behaviours. Applying these insights helps public health professionals design more effective interventions, refine communication strategies, and improve outcomes in areas ranging from chronic disease prevention to vaccination uptake and health equity.

The newly established Section aims to:

  • Foster interdisciplinary research that bridges behavioural science and public health.
  • Build partnerships with national associations, WHO/Europe, the European Commission, and other stakeholders.
  • Offer training, workshops, and networking opportunities for professionals.
  • Advocate for integrating behavioural science into European public health policy and practice.
  • Collaborate with other EUPHA Sections to embed behavioural perspectives across public health domains.

The Section brings together experts from academic institutions, public health agencies, and international organisations. It will develop activities that support capacity building, evidence translation, and cross-sector collaboration.

Public health professionals interested in contributing to or learning from the Section’s work are invited to join the network and stay updated on upcoming events and resources.
