As health systems increasingly rely on internationally recruited nurses, the need for high-quality preparation and effective integration has never been more urgent. This practical workshop focuses on what actually works in designing language and integration pathways that are scalable and grounded in real workplace needs. Drawing on lessons from Germany and Sub-Saharan Africa, it brings together leading practitioners to share solutions already being implemented to tackle common challenges across Europe.

This online event is designed for health workforce researchers, employers, placement agencies, language schools, and others working to ensure that internationally recruited nurses and their teams thrive. Key topics include:

• Closing the gap between formal language training and day-to-day clinical communication
• Financing integration
• Bridging exam preparation and workplace readiness
• Best practices for nurses and employers operating with diverse teams
• How technology can scale training capacity while maintaining quality

• Debora Aust, Founder of DARE Consulting and head of the Berlin-based advisory centre for skilled workers with foreign nursing qualifications (BBeFaP).
• Penina Wamboi, Founder of Tujijenge German Institute and a trained nurse in Germany, specialising in job-specific language training and integration support for nurses.
• Betty Chelangat, Chief Programs Officer at Velocity, a Kenya-based platform developing tech-led training for employer-grade language proficiency and cultural workplace readiness.
