Dear colleagues,

Spring is here and so is a season full of exciting opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and action. As the EUPHA Environment and Health Section, we are moving forward with purpose and energy. This second newsletter brings you key updates, research highlights, upcoming events, and, most importantly, several invitations for you to get involved and shape our section’s work in 2026.

Launching Members Webinars — Your Topics Wanted

Starting in April 2026, the EUPHA Environment and Health Section is launching a new series of monthly webinars, and we want you to drive the agenda.

Short, focused, and open to all, these sessions are designed to keep our community connected between major conferences.

Topics we are looking for:

  • New research findings in environmental and planetary health
  • EU policy updates, open consultations, and advocacy opportunities
  • Best practice examples from national public health programmes
  • Cross-sectoral topics: climate, biodiversity, air quality, water safety, chemical pollution
  • Methodological innovations: modelling, monitoring, and health impact assessment
  • One Health, EcoHealth, and Planetary Health frameworks in practice

No idea is too big or too small. If it matters to you, it matters to our community.

Pollution and Mental Health: A Hidden Crisis

A new briefing from the European Environment Agency (EEA), “Pollution and Mental Health: Current Scientific Evidence”, highlights growing evidence that environmental pollution is linked to mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and behavioural problems in children.

Mental health disorders already represent the sixth largest burden of disease in the EU (2023), and pollution may be a greater contributing factor than previously recognised.
