In this newsletter, we will promote upcoming events and opportunities leading into the autumn, including the European Public Health Conference this November in Lisbon, Portugal. Thank you to all who applied for the EPH Conference Fellowship. We have chosen seven experienced and motivated fellows whom we look forward to working with in preparation and during the upcoming conference in Lisbon, Portugal. We plan to announce the selected fellows next month- stay tuned!

For those of you who are new to our network, EUPHAnxt is a unique network within EUPHA for students and young professionals, including early career researchers and policymakers in the field of public health. EUPHAnxt is a free and open initiative that aims to inform and involve future generations in the European and multidisciplinary network of public health associations.

You are encouraged to share related opportunities and events with us and we would be pleased to disseminate it to our network. EUPHAnxt is open to partnering with student organisations in Europe. If you are a part of an organisation that may be interested in joining forces, please contact us. The sixth Internation Symposium on Ethics of Environmental Health (ISEEH), in conjuction with a workshop on ‘Ethics of Environmental Health in Armed Conflict Situtions” is scheduled for September 8-11, 2024 in Budweid, Czech Republic. This virtual conference on Population Health Management (PHM) focuses on unpacking a data-driven, people-centred and proactive approach to managing the health and well-being of a defined population. The aim is to disseminate and delve into key technical aspects of the WHO policy paper and provide a platform to share experiences and discuss these aspects in greater detail. The 2024 Global Health Literacy Summit is organized by the International Health Literacy Association, together with Careum and the Dutch Health Literacy Alliance, and it will take place September 18-20, 2024 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Learn more and register here.

The 22nd International Youth Conference “European Values for the Future for SEE Region” has the aim to showcase good case studies, creating meaningful dialogue with and for young people. It will also aim to promote the understanding of how to create youth-inclusive decision-making and civic participation processes for regional transformation. EPH Conference Preview

#EPH24 is scheduled for November 12 -15, 2024 in Lisbon, Portugal and the full conference programme is now available online! If you plan to attend the conference, we advise you to book travel and accommodation as soon as possible.

  • Co-designing for policy impact: Belgium’s monitoring & evaluation framework for cancer care & control (15:50-16:15)

Friday, November 15

  • Skills building seminar: How public health professionals can use the right to health to advance climate action and justice (11:45-12:45)
  • Breaking down silos: Maximizing the impact of different EU funding schemes in health (12:20-12:45)

Be sure to register for the welcome reception, which is scheduled on Wednesday, November 13 from 20:00-21:30. The social evening will take place on Thursday evening from 19:30, including dinner and dance, at Estufa Fria. Registration is required. We will be planning another ‘Join the Network’ session and an informal social evening. More details will be provided in the coming months.

If your abstract was accepted for the conference, you can check when you are scheduled to present by typing in your surname into the conference website. Additionally, the registration fee will increase from September 1, so be sure to register soon and note there are reduced fees for current students and trainees.

Sailing the waves of European public health: exploring a sea of innovation is the main theme for the conference. Just as explorers once set sail to discover new worlds, we, as public health professionals, embark on a journey of innovation and discovery in our field. We seek to push the boundaries, discover new approaches, and chart the course for the future of public health in Europe. Sub-themes of the EPH Conference 2024 include:

  • Artificial Intelligence in Public Health
  • One Health- Animal Approach
  • Social Marking in Public Health
  • Health inequalities
  • Global health

The pre-conference programme, which takes place Monday, November 11 and Tuesday, November 12, will include the following themes: cancer prevention; health literacy; European Health Data Space; Artificial Intelligence; digital health; strategic foresight methodology; behavioural and cultural insights; social security, work and health; prevention and preparedness; syndromic surveillance systems; enhancing your writing skills; and future health scenarios. Opportunities and Vacancies


 Applications are now being accepted for a 14-month postdoctoral research position at Dublin City University (Ireland). The aim of this health services project is to demonstrate the potential for safer hospital care and reduced healthcare costs associated with older patients in acute hospitals in Ireland.
